HOPE LAND – DECEMBER 2018
This image was made for Art Refuge UK this December by Majid Adin, artist and film animator from Iran. Majid joined us in Calais as a volunteer last week. The last time he was there was 3 years ago when he spent a harsh Winter living in the former makeshift refugee camp known as ‘the Jungle’ before making his way in a lorry to the UK to claim asylum.
At his request, we were privileged to return together to the site of the camp, now unrecognisable in its new guise as a nature reserve. Majid sought out the spot where he had set up a temporary home.
This image recalls the good times had in the camp in the company of people across cultures, and in spite of the most challenging conditions. It reminds us of the importance of community and friendship, so vital at this time of year.
If you would like to donate to our ongoing work in northern France and in the UK please do so here: https://www.justgiving.com/artrefuge-uk
We are taking a short break over the holiday period to restock and prepare for our next phase of work, starting on January 10th 2019.
With love, thanks and seasonal greetings to you all, and very best wishes, the Art Refuge UK team.
