FESTIVE ANTIDOTE TO INQUIETUDE IN PARIS

France is dominated by worry and incertitude in the run-up to the snap election called by Macron. This situation paves the way for the extreme right National Rally, with an unapologetically xenophobic anti immigration message.

As an antidote to this disturbing atmosphere, we were happy to participate in the annual party at the CEDRE (Secours Catholique day centre) this Tuesday 25th.

The Community Table, led by trainees Pascale & Claire, proposed image making with clay & plants. Drawings, compositions, prints and colour came into being around the table, and were pegged up like flags, flapping in the wind. One young man picked up a lump of clay, crossed the courtyard, and came back minutes later with an exquisite little animal. Nearby stalls offered cyanotypes, maskmaking, or mixing coffee with spices.

Here at least the ambience was festive, with storytelling, a concert by exiled musicians, dancers, a brass band and a delicious open air feast shared in the sunshine.

La France est dominé par l’inquiétude et l’incertitude des élections précipitées par Macron, qui laissent le chemin ouvert pour l’extrême droite avec un discours ouvertement xenophobe et sécuritaire.

Comme antidote à cet atmosphère anxiogène, on était content de participer à la fête du CEDRE (@secourscatholique) ce mardi 25.

La Community Table, mené par nos stagiaires Pascale et Claire, à proposé une fabrique d’images autour de l’argile et du végétal. Dessins, compositions, empreintes et mise en couleurs ont pris forme autour de la table, et ont été suspendu sur les fils autour, s’agitant comme des drapeaux. A un moment un jeune homme est parti avec un bloc de terre, il revenait quelques minutes plus tard avec un miniscule modelage. D’autres stands à proximité proposaient des cyanotypes, la fabrique de masques ou de café mélangé avec des épices.

Ici au moins, l’ambiance était festif ,avec des contes, un concert donné par des musiciens exilés, des danseurs, une fanfare et un grand repas partagé au soleil dans le grand cour.
