The sun hid behind clouds as we started Refugee Week with an outdoor cyanotype/sun prints session at our regular Home Office accommodation, but they soon parted and allowed us to play with the materials. The sun prints gave space for positive memories to emerge in amongst others, with one man commenting ‘We don’t have to wait for the sun to come out in Afghanistan - it’s always there.’
The domesticity of washing cloth under running water, squeezing it out and hanging it up to dry felt familiar and welcomed by all, and the two blue barriers that had appeared in the middle of the outdoor space became a repurposed object from which to hang the cloths and papers.
