PILOT PROJECT LAUNCHED IN NORTH SOMERSET!

WE ARE HERE: PHOTOGRAPHY GROUP FOR YOUNG PEOPLE - AUTUMN/WINTER 2021

Art Refuge were invited by North Somerset Council and Curo Group to offer an open-access photography group for young people in North Somerset who have experiences of seeking asylum in the UK. The weekly collaboration with Curo Group includes a range of photographic processes alongside the use of other art materials and media, and focuses on physical, geographical and psychological orientation, including walks using photography, found objects and mapping. As the core component for the group, photography offers opportunities for expressive freedom, playfulness and a sense of agency over the telling of individual and collective stories.

As part of the pilot - and held over two days in two locations - artist and photographer Aida Silvestri will be inviting the young people we work with in Folkestone and North Somerset to take part in a visual Call and Response portrait project to further link up the journeys that people make into the UK, across its land and at its edges.

Sessions run on Fridays, 1.00-3.00pm until 24th December in central Weston-super-Mare.
