ORTHODOX EASTER 2022

Writer: Art RefugeArt Refuge

Wishing everyone who celebrates today a peaceful, safe, happy Orthodox Easter. We are thinking especially of all those separated from family, displaced in northern France, the UK and further afield.

Many of those we work with are Orthodox Christians and celebrate Easter today, following the Julian calender. We are delighted to share these photos which are sent from Calais by Alex Holmes who is a long-term volunteer at Maria Skobstova House where young men from Eritrea were able to make food for the feast, including Injera. Also eaten is himbasha or ambasha bread, the traditional flat bread eaten on celebratory occasions.

These celebrations were made possible by the day centre at Secours Catholique - Caritas France & Refugee Community Kitchen and especially @mosaic_calais who brought music, musical instruments and art materials.
