THURSDAY 16 APRIL
17.30 – 20.00 UK Time
UEL Campus (In-person) & Online (Virtual)
This high-profile hybrid event is hosted by United Against Inhumanity (UAI) @unitedagainstinhumanity and the University of East London (UEL) @universityofeastlondon
The systemic mistreatment of refugees and asylum seekers across the United Kingdom and Europe has exacted a profound toll on the mental health and fundamental dignity of displaced populations. This evening’s gathering will critically examine the structural drivers of this distress and explore transformative strategies for effective intervention.
The event marks the official UK launch of the Manifesto of UAI’s Campaign to Stop the Inhumanity at Europe’s Borders—a landmark document endorsed by 160 civil society organizations across the continent.
The evening will include a Panel Discussion & Interactive Q&A “From Principles to Practice: Understanding and Meeting the Psychosocial Needs of Refugees”
Chair: Prof. Rachel Tribe, UEL Department of Psychology and Human Development
Panelists:
Ms. Yodit Mussie, Therapeutic Manager, Refugee Council
Rev. Johannes Marten, Good Shepherd
Ms. Bobby Lloyd, CEO, Art Refuge
Dr. Nooralhaq Nasimi, CEO, Afghanistan and Central Asian Association
Prof. Dinesh Bhugra, Emeritus Professor of Mental Health and Cultural Diversity, King’s College London
