BACKWARDS AND FORWARDS ACROSS THE COMMUNITY TABLE, FOLKESTONE, KENT

After days of heavy rain, the light was beautiful today, dancing off the rough Autumnal English Channel. It also cast its light and shadow across The Community Table.

For three hours we played - with scale, creating collective scenes and landscapes - the most miniature of objects placed next to towering structures, bringing humour and unlikely exchanges. The role of distraction was noted as important with so many things going on in people’s heads.

Someone typed a long letter to the Home Office. Someone said the earth is flat, his friend agreed. Lots of questions were asked, English practised and shaped.

At the end of the session an architectural drawing of Folkestone beach huts brought the here and now back in, alongside discussion about tomorrow’s local apple picking.
