A lordly letter of support!
We were delighted when Lord David Steel agreed to sign a letter of support for the work we do. He has kindly given permission to add to our website:
“In March 2009 I attended a small exhibition, Journey into Exile, at the Houses of Parliament, put on by the small UK based charity, Art Refuge UK. I myself visited Tibet in 2010 and gave a talk about my trip to the Scottish MSP’s. Both the exhibition and my own experiences of the Tibetan community, here and in Tibet itself, alert me to the invaluable work that Art Refuge UK is doing to promote, protect and preserve the physical and mental health of Tibetan-born refugee children in Nepal and in India. From what I gather, many Tibetan children and adults make the treacherous journey from Tibet to reach Nepal and India in order to flee political persecution, as well as religious and cultural restrictions. Once they reach a safe haven at the Tibetan Refugee Reception Centre in Kathmandu and later in Dharamsala, Art Refuge UK’s programme provides a context in which they can paint, play and explore their experiences in safety with the support of Tibetan trained staff and volunteers from around the international community. Art Refuge UK is the only organisation officially working with the children in the Reception Centres in this way, and therefore has a unique role to play in their transition from Tibet. I wholeheartedly endorse this work and hope that you will be able to offer it your support as the charity continues to run its activities in the present economic climate, and attempts to grow and develop over the coming months and years.”
Yours sincerely,
Lord Steel
